and tasteless white transparent thick liquid. Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated
Castor Oil is chemically polyoxyl 40 hydrogenated castor oil confirms to
USP/NF/ EP specification.

Replacement For
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is replacement
for Cremophor RH40, Crsmer RH-40 and Tween 80.
Typical Applications
» Solubilizer
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil improves water solubility of major
water insoluble products. Improves compatibility of incompatible
ingredients.
» Solubilizing method for vitamins
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is almost odourless and tasteless. It
ca be added to oral and topical applications of vitamin A, D, E and K type
form.
» Formulation
Aqueous vitamin A palmitate solution (150 000 l.u/ml) Vitamin A palmitate :
1.7 million L.U/8.8g. Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil : 25.0 g. Water :
add 100 ml.
Mix vitamin with Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil and heat up to 600 to
650C. Heat water at the same temperature. With stirring ad water in mixtue
of Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil and vitamin. As a result of
hydration, the viscosity will increase after addition of around 50% water.
Full addition of water will decrease the viscosity up to required level.
Quick addition of first 50% water can make the formulation opalescent. Slow
addition of water is preffered.
» Solubilizing of Pharma Ingrediants
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oilsolubilizes various hydrophobic
substances in aqueous solutions and make solutions clear.
» Foam Stabilizer
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil has little tendency to foaming. But it
works excellent when foaming agents are added into the formulations. It
works as foam booster and foam stabilizer. Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor
Oil is preferable in shaving gel, hand wash gel, tooth paste and similar
type of cleaning and toiletories, formulations. To reduce or eliminate the
foam add small quantity of polypropylene glycol 2000 or simethecone.
» Emulsifier
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is excellent versatile emulsifying
agent. It will emulsify major hydrophobic substances like fatty acids, fatty
alcohols, mineral oils.
» Moisturizer
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil improves moisturizing effect. It also
improves soft feeling.
» Film Former
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil improves film foaming capability and
flow properties.
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is most preferred in Cream, Lotion,
Lipstick etc; to improve film forming.
» Transparency Improvement
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oilsolubilize insoluble oily substances in
aqueous system. It improves transparency with shining. In cosmetic
formulations, impacting elegance appearance in cosmetic products such as
shaving gel, hair styling gel, hand wash gel. In Pharmaceutical syrup
formulations it improves transparency.
» Volatility Retardment
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil retards volatilities of volatile
solvents. It can be used for high volatile products like after shave
perfumes to retain its effect for longer period.
» Masking Agent
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil masks upleasant taste and odour of
typical volatile solvents like pharma syrup containing alcohols.
» Adhesion Reducer
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil reduces adhesion and chipping
properties of oils. It gives smooth feeling on application like in all
pharma, cosmetic creams, and lotions, hair oil, etc.
» Aerosol Formulations
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil improves solubility of the propellant
in aerosols in aqueous phase.
Stability
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is chemically
highly stable product. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause physical
separation into liquid and solid phase. At normal temperature it can be
easily restored to original form by homogenization. Poly Oxyl 40
Hydrogenated Castor Oil is stable in aqueous solutions and alcohol base
aqueous solutions. Avoid use of strong bases and acids in formulations with
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil as it may be Saponified.
Aqueous Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil solutions can be sterilized by
heating up to 1200C. pH may decrease slightly. In case of separation, slight
agitation will remake the solution. In aqueous solutions, add preservatives
in requisite concentrations. The concentration should be determined by test.
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is largely immune to the salts of hard
water.
Compatibility
With skin and mucous membranes : Swab tests have
demonstrated that Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is compatible with
human skin.
Sensitization
Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil solutions of
20% and 50% concentration in acetone were brushed ten times on the skin of
guinea pigs. They did not cause any sensitization of the skin.
Toxicity
Acute and chronic toxicity test in animals have
shown Poly Oxyl 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is essentially non-toxic and
non-irritant material.
Shelf Life
At least 2 years at room temperature (300oC)
